West Salem, OH – January 3, 2026 — It is with deep sorrow that Northwestern Local Schools announces the passing of one of our students on January 2, 2026. This heartbreaking loss is felt across our entire school community, and we extend our sincere sympathy to the student's family, friends, classmates, and all who knew him.  His passing is a profound loss, and it will be felt by students, staff, and families alike.

As we return from break, the district will have school counselors and additional grief support resources available for students and staff who may need assistance processing this loss. Supporting our school community during this difficult time remains a top priority.
